WACO (July 3, 2009)-- A woman was shot early Friday morning as she attempted to escape from a man wearing a ski mask who attempted to rob her, her brother and a man to whom they were talking in the parking lot of a Waco apartment complex.

It happened at around 1:30 a.m. Friday in the parking lot of the Robinson Drive Garden Apartments at 2724 Robinson Dr. in Waco.

Police said the woman, her brother and another man were standing in the parking lot and smoking cigarettes when a man wearing a ski mask approached them and demanded money.

When they told him they didn’t have any, police said, the robber ordered them to lie on the ground, police said.

At that point, the victim’s brother made a move toward the robber and the woman tried to run away, police said.

She told officers she heard a gunshot and felt a pain in her shoulder, police said.

The robber, meanwhile, escaped with what police said was a small amount of cash.

Once he was gone, the three victims drove to a nearby motel to call 911.

The woman, whose name was not released, was taken to a local hospital by ambulance with a gunshot wound to the shoulder that police said was not life threatening.

The robber remained at large late Friday morning.
