HOUSTON (July 6, 2009)--A federal appeals court has given a condemned Texas prison gang member permission to move forward with an appeal of his conviction in the drug-related murders of three people whose bodies were set on fire.
The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals says jurors who convicted Miguel "Fat Boy" Paredes, 26, may have had faulty instructions that didn't require them to agree unanimously on which of the three victims he could be held responsible for killing.
The court said Monday his trial lawyer may have been ineffective in not objecting to the instructions.
Paredes is listed on prison records as 5-feet-6 and 254 pounds and is identified as a member of the Hermanos Pistoleros Latinos prison gang.
He and two other men were convicted in the Sept. 17, 2000 murders.
The victims, two men and a woman, were shot to death with a handgun and a shotgun.
The bodies of the three victims were taken to Frio County, where they were dumped and set on fire.

It is so fascinating to me that the pro death penalty lynch mob would "allow" those on death row one appeal and then rush to "hang" them (although it is news to me and I would imagine to TDCJ that inmates should be hung). I think you do the pro death penalty much harm with your view since it would doubtless lead to the execution of many many innocent people - the wheels of "justice" do not move fast and out of the hundred plus exonerated death row inmates I doubt many were exonerated based on their first appeal. Perhaps you would be ok with those proven innocent men being killed before the proof came to light - I for one would not. And I imagine even pro death penalty people would not be ok with that - since it would fuel the anti death penalty movement even more if your breed of blind vengeance ruled and you made martyrs out of many many more innocent men.

Convicted in 2007! Why is this slime still alive in prison. Give them one appeal if convicted and then hang them.

Are you serious??? It's amazing how the offenders have more rights than the victims... Great justice system!
