TEXARKANA, Ark. (November 10, 2009)--Four people were killed and two people were injured Tuesday when a tractor-trailer crashed into vehicles that were stopped in an Interstate 30 construction zone near Texarkana and set off an explosion.
I-30 was closed in both directions after the fiery accident, which happened at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The westbound lanes remained closed Tuesday afternoon.
Vaughn Gentry, 43, of Dallas and Albert Pruitt, 51, of Addison died in a rig that was hauling newspaper advertising inserts, state police said.
Wayne Carpenter, 77, and Victory Barker, 64, both of Hot Springs, Ark., also died.
They were in a passenger car.
Investigators said Carpenter and three other drivers were stopped in the work zone when the Freightliner that Gentry and Pruitt were in set off an explosion when the rig hit Carpenter's car.
Police could not determine who was driving the truck.
