FORT WORTH (November 18, 2009)--A Texas man convicted of killing his daughter's boyfriend outside a Haltom City warehouse is facing 40 years in prison.

A jury Tuesday in Tarrant County sentenced Vinton Derrick Cummings, 44, after finding him guilty on Friday in the October 2008 shooting death of Temple Jernigan, 20.

Witnesses testified Cummings believed the boyfriend was interfering with the father-daughter relationship.

Jernigan was slain after Cummings asked to meet him, ostensibly so he could pass along some money to his daughter.

Cummings’ attorney acknowledged Jernigan was shot twice, but claimed it was self-defense.

Prosecutor Robb Catalano said Cummings was an amateur bodybuilder and evidence found by police indicated he had illegal human growth hormone at his home.
