HOUSTON (November 24, 2009)--An 18-year-old Houston-area honors student who's charged alongside her mother with trying to hire someone to kill her father has her dad’s support after her probable cause hearing.
Ashley Shamp, of Katy, and her mother, Catherine Shamp, 38, were charged last week with solicitation of capital murder in what authorities say was a plot to arrange for the murder of David Shamp.
Authorities say they foiled the plot after the teenager's ex-boyfriend, Nathaniel Blake, wore a recording device while meeting with Ashley's mother.
Authorities say Blake was asked to kill David Shamp for $20,000.
Ashley Shamp walked out of court Monday morning with her dad's arms wrapped around her after the probable cause hearing.
Her attorney says she's innocent of the charge.
Online records show Catherine Shamp was held Monday at the Harris County Jail but officials didn't say whether she had an attorney.

title needs be renamed. maybe student charged in plot to kill dad was Texas Honors Student. to me that sounds a little better
Bill, I totally agree...awful headling. In fact, may send it in to Jay Leno's headlines. Come on KWTX, isn't anyone editing these stories? Or is that what we can expect from college graduates these days?
The title should say..."Texas Honor Student is Charged in Plot to Kill Dad". Use your Grammar and Spell Check KWTX! Headline is misleading.
