RAYNE, La. (November 30, 2009)--Louisiana State Police say two people died in a five-vehicle crash on Interstate 10, one of them a Texas man.
The crash occurred at around 7:30 p.m. Sunday between Rayne and Crowley in Acadia Parish.
Troopers say the preliminary investigation indicates that a pickup truck driven by Kenneth Hicks, 56, of Northport, Ala., crossed the interstate median and sideswiped an eastbound car.
The pickup truck then rolled and struck an eastbound pickup truck driven by Billy Nelms, 49, of Orange.
Troopers said the Acadia Parish Coroner pronounced Hicks and Nelms dead at the scene.
Investigators say an eastbound 18-wheel truck jackknifed into the median as the driver tried to avoid the crash and another passenger car was hit by debris from the initial accident.
