During her time at Channel 10, Julie Hays has worn several hats. She started her career at KWTX-TV as an overnight producer. Julie went on to handle responsibilities of weekend producer, reporter, and morning and noon anchor before moving to the evening newscasts alongside Gordon Collier.
Julie has covered several big stories during her time at Channel 10, including the Baylor basketball scandal. Five years after that major story broke, Julie landed the first sit-down interview with disgraced former head basketball coach, Dave Bliss.
Julie has also spent many days covering the President's comings and goings in his adopted hometown of Crawford. That included an exclusive one-on-one with the President's late Press Secretary Tony Snow. She and Snow formed a friendship that eventually included a personal invitation for Julie and her husband to the President's Christmas party at the White House.
When not on the clock, Julie spends countless hours volunteering in the community. She has served as a volunteer youth volleyball coach, and speaks often to community organizations around Central Texas.
Her passions include helping in the fight against cancer.
For her efforts, the American Cancer Society awarded Julie the "Friend of the American Cancer Society Award."
Julie also produces a monthly segment reminding women the importance of early detection, called "Buddy Check 10." That segment is part of Julie's involvement with the Susan G. Komen Foundation and helps support the efforts toward the annual Race for the Cure.
Julie's other media awards include the statewide media honor roll for her education reporting, and the large market media award from the Texas Farm Bureau for her interest in agriculture.
Julie is from Paris, Texas, where her parents still reside.
She's a graduate of Abilene Christian University and is a member of the Crestview Church of Christ.
Julie is married to the love of her life, whom she met in Central Texas.
The two are “parents” to a precious Yorkshire Terrior, named Jack.
