Rusty Garrett has held the position of chief weather anchor for KWTX News 10 since 1989 and heads up Central Texas' most advanced forecast center.
A proud native Texan, Rusty has been a student of weather science longer than any fellow broadcasters in our area. His broadcast career began in high school in his hometown of Victoria, Texas as a radio announcer.
After a decade working radio stations from Victoria to Corpus Christi, Rusty launched his television career and has since been the head of weather departments in Longview/Tyler, Lufkin/Nacogdoches and now for almost a quarter century - Central Texas!
Rusty's wife Ann, is a local school teacher and they are the proud parents of a son, Will - who is an Air Force Dental Tech stationed in San Antonio at Lackland Air Force Base. Ann and Rusty make their home in rural Falls County.
Rusty's community involvement has made him one of the most recognized and popular personalities in the area. He has actively served on the board of directors for the United Way and the American Red Cross.
For over two decades, he has tirelessly spearheaded Project Tornado, a 16 county school weather safety program and is in constant demand speaking to tens of thousands of children throughout school districts around the area.
Each year, he serves as local Chairman for the U.S. Marine Corp's "Toys For Tots" Christmas campaign.
Rusty is very active in the Masonic fraternity. He holds a 32nd degree endowed membership in the Scottish and York Rites and in 2007 was installed as District Deputy Grand Master for The Grand Lodge of Texas. He is Past Master of Waco's Fidelis Masonic Lodge #1127.
His love and commitment to the community and especially it's children are obvious to anyone who watches News 10!
