Email Address: lon.curtis@kwtx.com

A native of Bell County, Lon Curtis has spent almost five decades
studying Central Texas weather patterns. In fact, forty years ago, he

He began chasing storms more than 25 years ago, and spotted and chased the tornadoes of May 27, 1997 (including the Jarrell tornado).

He was credited with saving lives by his timely and accurate reports to the National Weather Service and to local emergency managers.

Lon joined the Doppler 10 Forecast Center team in the fall of 1997 as
weekend weather anchor.

In July, 2001, he became the weather anchor for the morning and noon weathercasts.

In june of 2007, Lon became anchor for the weathercasts at 12 Noon and 5pm Monday through Friday.

Lon has completed forty hours of study in meteorology through the
Mississippi State University Broadcast Meteorology Program.

He is an active member of the National Weather Association and of the American Meteorological Society, and has presented research papers at conferences for both organizations.

He holds the coveted A.M.S. designation of Certified Broadcast Meteorologist.

Although weather was his "first love", Lon has had other careers and
avocations.

He retired in 2001 after serving 24 years as an assistant
district attorney in Bell County, with almost 19 of those years in the
position of First Assistant D.A., and he served 30 years in the Belton

Lon is an avid golfer.
