Voters Approve Most Local Proposals; State Amendments Win Approval
Voters in Hewitt rejected three bond issue proposals Tuesday, but most of the other local propositions on the ballot won approval, as did 11 proposed state constitutional amendments in an election that attracted less than 10 percent of Texas voters to the polls.

To Me and other's who commented on my math skills,I should have proof-read for typos more closely. How about giving a gal a break? I made excellent grades in math when I was in school about 40 years ago. However, $19,800 for an acre of land is still a lot of money when home values are down. My family recently sold some land and did not get anywhere near that amount per acre, which by the way makes me wonder if that price included gas and mineral rights.

to "someone"...just to clarify...When I stated that my child was not receiving the services that she needs, I was not talking about transportation. I'm not aware of any transportation issues at Lorena ISD. I am concerned about the Special Education Services that are not being provided by ECCT (the co-op that Lorena ISD is using), such as Occupational Therapy, etc.

All of you concerned people were so wrapped up in your local stuff you probably did noy read/understand the wording of the 11 Proposals/Admendments that you voted on. I believe that is classified as pea-brains. The eminent-domain said "Taking private property for economic developement would be prohibited. It can only be taken for the good of the Public, by due process". Now, What is a Trans-Texas-Corridor classified as(good of the Public(?). Also what about a High Speed 'T' bone Rail System(?). What 'IF' any local/state/federal government wants to take your property for a Public Park, or City Hall/Fire Station?? Puts a different light on the Subjects, Huh?? So all of you people that only saw your petty little close to home situations, do not even know what you 'actually' voted for on the eleven State Proposals!! And Midway ISD provides buses for special needs children. Check with them.

This is sad! The voters in Lorena need to understand what they've done. My daughter is a Lorena student and is currently not receiveing the services she needs because there are not enough funds for the program, therefore they have to rely on the co-op which is not providing them. There are many, many students in the same situation. Even though Lorena is still a small community and small school district, they still need to do right by the students that are currently enrolled! The special needs kids and teachers will continue to suffer from this decision. I understand why many people decide to move their children to districts such as Midway! The school taxes may be high, but the children are getting a wonderful education. Lorena is a great place to live, but the school district needs to keep up with the needs of the students. Children are our future, and need to have adequate resources provided to learn.

At least most of you KNEW about a school tax vote...Lorena kept it secret, didn't put it on the ballot, and hoped no one noticed you had to go to a different table to vote for or against it AFTER you cast a regular ballot. I even asked if I needed to do something at that table since it had a sign that said LORENA ISD & I have related kids in school & live here, but no one would answer me, They just STARED AT ME! I even said "HELLO??" and still, just a stare. SO, I left. Only AFTERWARDS, when talking to others who did the same & got the same reaction, did I find out what was REALLY going on, from one person who DID know, only finding out on election day...a secret tax hike, that the school HOPED no one would vote down. Very underhanded, very sneaky, & sadly, just like the Lorena cops running radar on the highway & destroying the right of way daily, VERY TYPICAL of what our city has become of late...a Trap.

to 'texas gal' - maybe you need some remedial math work. it would be just over $19,800 per acre not $198,000.00!! and that is not a bad price at all for land - even here in texas.

Well People, regardless of how the issues were voted on, and whether or not you agree, the minority 10 percent of all qualified voters, have voted. So Like-it-or-Lump-it, it's done!! And I'm glad the Hewitt voters turned down the three proposals!! Thank You!! But the beer/wine/liquoir sales are going to increase your City's tax income?? HA!!! Just be more DWI'S for the Police to issue tickets for, and more drunk drivers on the Streets!!!

How many people who voted in city elections for tax increases actually own property? It's easy to vote for tax increases when you let someone else foot the bill. I don't live in any of these districts, but I just can't see justifying more tax increases without holding the school districts more responsible for how they spend the money.

Dear Rocket Parent, this $ is specified for operating budget!!! So yes, no building projects!!! Congrats!! There have been no increases for gas, electricity, water, sewer, garbage, payroll increases in years... it was frozen several years ago.

So Robinson got the tax increase. The spending of these dollars need to be spent wisely instead of the ways of the past. We have a newly erected bandstand directly behind the field goal putting kids and instruments in harms way, the band uses port o' potties and no way to wash their hands, the band has new uniforms worn 3 times this year due to the paints being "white". Money spent without thought scares me to think what next? We have power point in class rooms not being used because not all parts are there, but it looks good to visiting parents. Put the money into the teachers. They need a pay raise and respect from ISD instead of throwing coaches that won't bend and (HS)band instructors that throw away the traditions of "Pride of the Blue". When you throw away traditions you loose moral standards of a super district. Teachers need the chance to teach in a right enviroment with the much needed tools. Put the money into education and bring back the traditions that made RISD TRUE BLUE.

First, Thank You to each of the volunteers who worked the voting locations. Without your help, we couldn't have free elections. Second, until last week I didn't realize that there would be an election this week. Either I've been off-kilter, or else this election was not publicized very much. After my co-worker mentioned the eminent-domain issue, I went to the internet to look up the details, and then found that, plus all of the other propositions. The State of TX has a great website with all the details for each of the propositions, but I was a little bit peeved that I couldn't find much on the KWTX website or from the Waco Tribune website. Please give us more of the important news, and less of the sensationalism stuff like Michael Jackson's death.

Thank you Robinson voters for taking care of the youth of your community! Congratulations on a job well done!

Prop 2 is not a new tax, it is clarifying how your property can be taxed. Meaning that if you have a home its tax evaluation will be evaluated as a home. In the past it was taxed as a "best use." Meaning if it was better used as commercial property, that's what taxes you would pay. It will save people money!

Texas Gal better put new batteries in the calculator because your math is way off which kind of ruins the point you were trying to make about how smart Hewitt people are. I don't have an opion on the real estate deal, but anyone who voted against any construction projects for your school or your municipality is just a fool! With prices and bids coming in at roughly 50-60% of what they were 2 years ago, NOW is the time to build. It may not be good for the businesses involved in teh competition, but the cities, schools, and state are getting great bargains on any construction projects they can get started.
