WASHINGTON (March 15, 2010)--More than 120 million U.S. Census forms begin arriving in mailboxes around the country Monday.
The government's once-a-decade population count will be used to draw district lines for congressional seats and to determine the allotment of more than $400 billion in federal aid.
Fast-growing states in the South and the West could stand to lose the most because of lower-than-average mail participation rates in 2000 and higher shares of Hispanics and young adults, who are among the least likely to mail in their forms.
The Census Bureau is urging cities and states to promote the census and improve upon rates in 2000, when about 72 percent of U.S. households returned their forms.
If everyone who receives a census form mailed it back, the government would save an estimated $1.5 billion in follow-up visits.

AMENAMEN AMEN But people see it as hes black and they all amke a Great Big deal about it i feel the same way doesnt matter race just how many live in the USA but the race issue will never change it just keeps getting worse they think we owe them but we have all paid our debt to that so forget race and be one and do your job!!!!
And why shouldn't it? Our president has made a huge deal about being the first African-American president. If that's such an important fact, then why shouldn't the demographics of our country be a big deal? It's not about segregation, it's about getting a picture of the makeup of our country.
About 75% of this census survey is about race or ethenicity. Everyone should mark the Other Box, and write American in the space provided. Race should have nothing to do with the Census Count!
