The
Central Texas Board of Selectors has chosen Dennis Stapleton to receive
a 2005
Jefferson

He’s been pledge center coordinator for the Jerry Lewis Labor

Central Texas

for the last five years.  He
has been president of the Heart of Texas District MDA Executive Advisory
Committee for the last two years.

The
nomination letter calls Stapleton “a vital leader in the volunteer
army that keeps MDA moving toward its goal of finding treatments and
cures for 43 neuromuscular diseases.”

Chief
Stapleton, known to all on the telethon as “Denny”, has been
instrumental in setting up and carrying out the annual Firefighter
“Fill-The-Boot” campaign in both Woodway and Lacy Lakeview.
He not only gives of his own time, he motivates many of his
friends and co-workers to join him whenever needed.

In
addition to his service to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Dennis is
very involved in his church, volunteers with Special Olympics and plays
an active role in the Chamber of Commerce coordinating the annual
Gethering on the
Chisholm Trail

.

Chief
Stapleton is also very involved in volunteer positions related to his
work with fire and police.  He
is acting secretary of the Central Texas Police Association and serves
on the boards of Texas Police Association, Connally Independent School
District Advisory Board, Texas Fire Chiefs Association and the McLennan
County Fire Protection Association.

The
nomination letter points out, “…his whole life is about giving back.
In his profession he is a public servant.
He lives his faith and serves those around him…by example and
the way he motivates others.”
