The Central The Central Texas Board of Selectors has chosen Clifford Johnson to receive a 2006 Jefferson Award Medallion.
Cliff Johnson is described as a colorful character who scoffs at retirement. As one of his nominators writes, “motivated by a strong faith in God, he is well known as a Habitat for Humanity volunteer, boys Sunday School teacher, and a guide and host for countless children who have visited his farm.”
Retirement is word that causes Clifford to shudder. His son-in-law writes, “he firmly believes that hard work and ‘getting up off your dead end’ will keep him young and will always open up doors to helping someone. He’s always quick to thank God for his good health and strong mind that enable him to keep going, quite past eighty.”
The farm is safe haven for school field trips where he provides hay rides followed by a wiener roast.
Clifford has taught fourth grade Sunday School for more than 40 years and daily stops by to visit his Sunday School boys at their homes if he’s not visiting homebound persons.
A special area of service for Clifford is Habitat for Humanity. He’s worked on 86 homes contributing not only his labor but his finances as well. His goal is to help build 100 homes.
