Whoever said traveling across the country was easy. What a nightmare travel day. The object is to get to the venue a day early to figure out the logistics of the event and the town. That is key in media coverage, knowing how to get where you need to be without getting lost and all was lost by way of that tonight. First of all the day started as I made my way to Waco Regional Airport for a 9:50am flight to Houston where I would connect to Raleigh. That didn't happen flight was canceled until 12:45pm, so i was back home to waste a couple of hours. The 3:00pm arival time in Raleigh instantly pushed back until at least 7:00pm Finally I arrive in North Carolina at 7:00pm-ish. The rental car took forever, so it's off to the hotal I have no idea where it is. Driving at night in a new car and a new town is tough enough, but I near my destination when I realize, it's really dark. Hard to see anything at all. Right then I realize I can't see anything on the sides of the roads or the street signs because the power is out! Breaking news... a transformer fire has blacked out a quarter of Raleigh and as fate has it it's the quarter that I am going to. I call Inside Baylor Sports Robert Shiekh who informs me I was right about the blackout it's all over the news. I call the hotel for directions after that but it's hard to get directions when you are lost in a blackout and can't explain where you are. some power comes back on and I am able to find the hotel. Sweet serenity! Not so fast! The desk clerk informs me my reservations made through the NCAA do not start until Saturday. Now I have no place to stay. A quick call to Robert as his hotel across town, and at least I have a place to crash on his floor. The desk clerk was nice enough to print out directions for me to the other hotel. The nightmare continues, I still have a report to send back to the station. I meet Robert, and hook up the ole computer email the files I need to and it's off to dinner. I ate breakfast at 10:00am but haven't had anything since then. I go to a local sports bar to catch a bite and maybe some of the NCAA men's tournament. Upon getting in, Robert and I realize there are about 1000 tv's none of which have the NCAA tournament on. Why? Well, NC State is playing in the men's NIT tournament and all the tv's are tuned to that. WOW! What a shock! Does that tournament even matter? It gets worse. Dan Ingham calls me from the station. The files e-mailed did not go through. So it's back to the hotel (I'm not even a guest at) to work out the kinks and resend the video. All goes well at the end of another two hours! From there I was going on about 15 plus hours with no food, finally a local establishment is found that serves food until 1:45am. A quick cheeseburger and I'm feeling a little better. It was the best cheeseburger I've ever had although I suspect under any other circumstance it would be a "not-so-good" cheeseburger. Finally it's in bed a little after 2:00am and a bright and early wake up call is set for 8:30am
