SAN ANTONIO (July 29, 2010)—Jeffery Monroe, 41, formerly of Waco is among the dead after a gunman opened fire Wednesday at a home in a gated neighborhood in San Antonio, killing two elderly men and a woman whose three children were playing in the backyard and heard the gunfire and ran to a neighbor's for help.
The other victims were identified as Arthur Debuan, 88, Joseph Ray McDonald, 69, and Heather Monroe, 40.
Jeffrey and Heather Monroe lived on Country Club Drive in Waco until their divorce, a neighbor said Thursday.
The both had since moved and a man who’s renting the house said Jeffrey Monroe worked for a Dallas-area firm.
Police identified the gunman as McDonald.
The relationship between the gunman and the victims wasn’t clear Thursday.
Authorities say McDonald entered the home Wednesday carrying two handguns.
One of the children told officers “an angry man came to visit,” according to the police report, so he took his younger sister and brother to the backyard to play with the dog.
He told officers he then heard multiple gunshots from inside the house, went to a window, looked into the living room and saw the gunman standing over his mother.
He told officers he told his siblings to run and went out a side gate to a neighbor’s home for help.
When officers arrived, they found a Black Chevy Tahoe parked in the street that was still warm.
They found the gunman lying face down in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to the left side of his temple.
Officers recovered a semi-automatic pistol from the floor and a cocked semi-automatic pistol from next to his hand.
The three children were released to their grandparents, who drove to San Antonio fro Waco, according to the police report.
