(February 11, 2008)--A few days after winning a federal trademark making it officially the "Icebox of the Nation," International Falls, Minnesota has the record-low to back it up.
The temperature there Monday fell to 40 below zero, breaking the town's more than 40-year-old mark of 37-below for the date.
It was so cold that one resident couldn't even get his car trunk lid to close after he got out his charger to kick-start his dead battery.
But by late morning, the temperature had risen all the way to 18 below zero.
The temperature also fell to 40 below in Embarrass, which is 80 miles southeast of International Falls.
