(February 13, 2008)—A 51-year-old woman is dead after being swept into a funnel cloud in South Louisiana Tuesday.

She was visiting a hospital when the storms that rumbled through Central Texas early Tuesday morning hit Tangipahoa Parish.

The hospital staff advised the woman to stay inside the building but she decided to leave.

Authorities say she was killed when a tornado picked her up and slammed her into a car.

Fallen trees damaged more than two-dozen vehicles parked at the hospital.

"We did have hail, strong winds. And in the north end of the parish they clocked some of them at about eighty miles an hour,” said Blair Foster of the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office
