(April 10, 2008)—Residents of parts of Central Texas were cleaning up Thursday after early morning storms rumbled through, producing high winds heavy rain and at least one tornado.

Tornado warnings were in effect early Thursday for Bell, Falls and Freestone Counties.

What was described as a tornado in the Belton area heavily damaged buildings at a flea market on U.S. 190.

Farm-to-Market Road 2271 across the dam at Lake Belton was temporarily closed after authorities discovered light standards atop the dam had fallen across the roadway.

The intersection at 2271 and FM 439 was closed to northbound traffic on 2271 and the north side of 2271 at the dam was closed, as well.

Bell County also reported restricted traffic along Dog Ridge Loop west of Belton because of a large tree that had fallen across the roadway.

Another possible tornado was reported in northwestern Temple.

There were reports of structural damage to a duplex and two residences in area of the 600 block of Calhoun Street and South 13th Street in Temple.

The storm downed a number of trees in the area.

The 500 block of North 8th St. in Temple was down to one lane as crews worked to remove a large tree that was blocking traffic.

Trees were downed in the area of Ridgewood and Merrimac Circle and in the 3200 block of MacArthur Drive in Waco.

In Hubbard, the storm downed a power line on Pecan Street.

Scattered power outages were reported in Bell County as well as in the West and Axtell areas in McLennan County.

Large trees were reported down throughout Freestone County.

Can anyone recommend a good, reliable weather radion? These storms that roll through at night make me nervous. They never bothered me before but last year, we were hit by some really hard weather http://youtube.com/watch?v=tLRo55a4k3E (my page) and want to be able to have some type of warning in the event of really harsh overnight weather.

I was wondering if anyone heard tornado sirens in Temple? I live over by the industrial part and never heard one. A few of my family members didn't hear any either. I was curious as to why they were not activated.

I never heard such howling and whistling of the wind in my life. We left our mobile home in a hurry and the wing was so strong that my vehicle would hardly go against it. When we returned trees were uprooted from a yard next to us and things blown off and away all over.
