(April 21, 2008)--Officials in New Mexico told hundreds of people to evacuate as wildfires approach, but many of the residents are ignoring the call.

High winds were fanning the flames, wildfire, sending the fire racing between the towns of Manzano and Torreon.

No injuries have been reported.

Residents of about 130 homes in the two towns, near the Manzano Mountains southeast of Albuquerque, have been asked to leave, but not many have.

Fire crews are working on rugged terrain on the east side of the blaze, but high winds grounded air tankers and helicopters that had been dropping fire retardant on the blaze earlier in the day.

The fire started Tuesday, threatening communication towers and a University of New Mexico observatory.

Investigators are looking into the cause, which was described as "suspicious."
