Small Quake Shakes Missouri Save Email Print

A | A | A

(May 5, 2008)--Residents woke up to an earthquake Monday in St. Louis County, Mo.

There were no reports of damage from the early morning temblor, which struck about 6:25 a.m. in Fenton, which is in the central part of the state.

Last month, a magnitude 5.2 earthquake shook much of the Midwest.

Its epicenter was near West Salem, Ill. near the Indiana border.

More than two-dozen aftershocks followed that quake, some registering 4.0 magnitude and higher.

Special Weather Features
Slight chance of PM showers!
From Lon Curtis:

There hasn't been much change in the local weather pattern for a couple of days, which means we should see partly cloudy, very warm and humid weather this afternoon and again Friday. We may also see another round of widely scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms later this afternoon, and still another round on Friday afternoon. Over the holiday weekend, we will continue with very warm and humid conditions, and with a slight chance of mainly afternoon showers and thunderstorms Saturday and Sunday. Right now, Labor Day looks relatively rain-free.

Tropical Storm Gustav is very close to Jamaica after reorganizing southward overnight. Maximum winds are 70 mph and the storm is expected to strengthen back to hurricane intensity in the next day or so. The forecast track has shifted a little westward as a result of the southward shift of the storm's center, but still brings Gustav toward the Louisiana coast early next week, possible as a Category 3 major hurricane. The forecast for our area the next week depends greatly on what Gustav does. Stay tuned!
