Possible Tornadoes Sighted In Oklahoma Save Email Print

A | A | A

(May 8, 2008)—Witnesses in Oklahoma are describing heavy rain, hail and storms that seemed to rock the walls Wednesday.

Officials are investigating whether tornadoes caused the damage.

The storms were severe enough to topple trees and knock out power to thousands of residents.

One tree fell onto a gas meter, which spewed gas into the air and forced the temporary evacuation of about 50 people who lived nearby.

Meteorologists are checking reports that two tornadoes were spotted Thursday night.

Oklahoma state officials say there were no reports of major injuries or damage.

Highway motorists also spotted the possible tornadoes in Oklahoma City during rush hour.

“It's that time of year,” a National Weather Service spokesman said.

All Eyes On Dolly!
From Keith Cavey:

Sunday was a sunny and hot day in Central Texas, and Monday won't be much different. Temperatures will once again close in on the 100 degree mark with no chance for rain in our forecast.

There could be some rain headed our way later this week, however. Tropical Storm Dolly has formed in the western Caribbean Sea, east of the Yucatan Peninsula. She is expected to follow a west-northwesterly track that by Wednesday or Thursday could see her making landfall somewhere in Northern Mexico or South Texas. If that happens, Dolly could sling enough Gulf moisture our way to give us at least a decent chance for rain late in the week. You can keep up with Dolly's progress by visiting our Tropical Weather page!
