(July 10, 2008)—Hurricane Bertha had weakened again to a Category One storm, but forecasters expect it to strengthen in the next 24 hours.
They’re warning Bermuda to monitor the hurricane’s progress over the next several days, although they say it’s still too early to determine what impact Bertha could have on the island.
Large swells and high surf are already in evidence there, however.
Thursday morning, Bertha was about 485 miles southeast of Bermuda and moving toward the northwest at about nine miles per hour.
Forecasters expect the hurricane to turn gradually to the north and to slow down over the next few days.
Maximum sustained winds Thursday morning were near 90 miles per hour with higher gusts.
