(July 11, 2008)—Bermuda’s Weather Service has issued a tropical storm watch as Hurricane Bertha continued to churn over open water Friday, about 310 miles south-southeast of the island.
Bertha was moving toward the northwest at about six miles per hour and is expected to make a gradual turn to the north during the next 24 hours, which will bring the storm’s fringes near Bermuda on Saturday.
Friday morning, maximum sustained winds were near 85 miles per hour with higher gusts.
Large swells and high surf are already affecting Bermuda and are expected to persist for the next few days.
