(July 12, 2008)--Elida, the fifth tropical storm of the season, has formed off Mexico's Pacific Coast.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Elida has sustained winds of nearly 40 miles per hour with higher gusts.

On Saturday morning, Elida was located about 220 miles south of Puerto Angel, Mexico, and about 370 miles southeast of Acapulco and was traveling northwest into the Pacific, away from land, at about 14 mph.

The storm is expected to stay on that track for the next 36 to 48 hours.

Rain Tapers Off...Cooldown Arrives!
From Rusty Garrett:

In some parts of the area this Wednesday, two to four inches of much-needed rain fell. Moist air colliding with an approaching cool front set the stage for prolonged periods of rainfall, particularly along and west of I-35.

Mostly cloudy skies will gradually thin west to east overnight although eastern and southeastern counties may see additional showers again around sunrise Thursday. Breezy and much cooler weather is in store for all of the area during the day and terrific weather is expected Friday through Monday, with lows in the 50s and highs no warmer than 80!
