(July 13, 2008)--Tropical Storm Elida was picking up steam Sunday off southern Mexico.

The fifth named storm of the Pacific season formed Saturday, and forecasters expect it to strengthen into a hurricane in the next 24 hours, but Elida will likely stay well south of the
Mexican coast.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center says the storm is about 205 miles southwest of Acapulco and is chugging west-northwest at about 16 miles-an-hour.

The center says Elida could push large swells and high surf up on Mexico's southwestern coast over the next couple of days.
