(July 13, 2008)—Bertha, which has weakened to a tropical storm from a hurricane, was hovering near Bermuda Sunday.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center said the storm was moving slowly in the Atlantic.

Maximum sustained winds were near 65 miles per hour with higher gusts.

Large swells and high surf are affecting Bermuda.

Forecasters said the center of the storm was about 180 miles southeast of Bermuda.

The storm is expected to begin drifting to the northwest later Sunday and continuing into Monday.

That track could bring the center of the storm not far to the southeast and east of Bermuda during the next couple of days, but the motion could be erratic and the center could move closer to Bermuda.
