(July 14, 2008)--Residents of Bermuda were taping windows and securing boats, as Tropical Storm Bertha moved closer Monday.

Bertha isn’t expected to hit the island, but its pass by Bermuda's east coast may bring tropical storm conditions and three to five inches of rain to the British Atlantic territory.

Before it weakened Sunday, Bertha was the first hurricane of the Atlantic season.

Two hurricanes have formed so far this season in the eastern Pacific and the second,
Elida, is continuing to move away from the coast of western Mexico.
