(July 18, 2008)--At least four people are dead and many others are missing after a tropical storm pounded southern Taiwan with as much as 44 inches of rain in 24 hours.
Tropical Storm Kalmaegi is now moving from Taiwan toward China, leaving flash floods and landslides in its wake.
TV footage shows water pouring down a mountain road.
One woman was pulled out of a house buried in a landslide that killed her year-old daughter.
Another family member is missing.
Victims include a man and women who were rescued only to be lost when a police motorboat overturned in the floodwaters.
Others had to rescue the police rescuers who were thrown from the boat.
