(July 20, 2008)--Tropical Storm Cristobal has gained a little strength as it cuts a slow path off the North Carolina coast.
The storm is expected to dump several inches of rain on parts of the drought-stricken state.
The storm's heaviest winds and rains have stayed well offshore, though it's led to strong rip currents along the beaches.
Cristobal was about 105 miles southwest of Cape Hatteras Sunday morning.
The National Hurricane Center says it's moving at about 6 miles an hour with maximum sustained winds of about 50 miles per hour.
The storm will likely skirt the Outer Banks Sunday.
Tropical storm warnings were in effect from northern South Carolina up to the North Carolina-Virginia state line.
