(July 21, 2008)--Authorities in Boston say a lightning strike injured 10 people who were taking shelter under a tree after a thunderstorm broke out during a soccer game.
Boston EMS officials say the victims were taken to various hospitals after Sunday’s incident.
Some of the victims were as young as 13, and each had burns consistent with a lightning strike.
Everyone was expected to survive.
An EMS deputy supervisor says he can't remember 10 people ever being struck by lightning at once.
One witness describes watching the victims falling "like bricks."

From Lon Curtis:
There hasn't been much change in the local weather pattern for a couple of days, which means we should see partly cloudy, very warm and humid weather this afternoon and again Friday. We may also see another round of widely scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms later this afternoon, and still another round on Friday afternoon. Over the holiday weekend, we will continue with very warm and humid conditions, and with a slight chance of mainly afternoon showers and thunderstorms Saturday and Sunday. Right now, Labor Day looks relatively rain-free.
Tropical Storm Gustav is very close to Jamaica after reorganizing southward overnight. Maximum winds are 70 mph and the storm is expected to strengthen back to hurricane intensity in the next day or so. The forecast track has shifted a little westward as a result of the southward shift of the storm's center, but still brings Gustav toward the Louisiana coast early next week, possible as a Category 3 major hurricane. The forecast for our area the next week depends greatly on what Gustav does. Stay tuned!
