(August 19, 2008)—Street flooding and power outages were reported Tuesday after Tropical Storm Fay swept ashore near Naples.

Fay made landfall at Cape Romano, just south of Naples, at 4 a.m. with top sustained winds of 60 miles per hour, well below hurricane-force.

A hurricane warning has been lifted but a tropical storm warning remains in effect.

Scattered power outages include 5,800 customers on upscale Marco Island, according to Collier County officials who also said 148 people spent the night in storm shelters.

Fay could be a big rainmaker across Florida over the next few days.

The storm could also spawn tornadoes.
