(August 21, 2008)--Tropical Storm Fay was hanging Thursday just off Florida's central Atlantic coast, dousing the region with rain.

Alligators, snakes and other wildlife are being seen in flooded neighborhoods where high water has driven the animals from their normal lairs.

A tropical storm warning remained in effect Thursday from Fort Pierce, Fla. north to the Savannah River at the Georgia-Florida border.

Forecasters expect Fay to move slowly across the northern Florida Peninsula Thursday and to be near the Gulf Coast of the Panhandle by late Friday or Saturday.

Maximum sustained winds Thursday were near 60milse per hour with higher gusts.

No strengthening was expected.

Rain remains the main threat.

Fay is expected to produce accumulations of as much as 10 inches across the central to northern portion of the state, southern Georgia and southeastern Georgia.

Isolated amounts of as much as 15 inches are possible.
