(September 3, 2008)—Tropical Storm Hanna was getting bigger Wednesday, but not necessarily badder, forecasters said.
The National Hurricane Center said the storm is packing maximum sustained winds near 60 miles per hour.
While little change is expected Wednesday, forecasters say Hanna could regain hurricane strength on Thursday or Friday.
Hanna, however, is getting larger, with tropical storm force winds extending outward up to 290 miles.
A hurricane warning is in effect for the central and southeastern Bahamas, and the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Earlier Wednesday, Hanna drenched Haiti, which already had lost more than 100 lives to mudslides and flooding since mid-August.
Forecasters expect the storm will start climbing along the U.S. coast by the weekend.
