(September 5, 2008)--Many beach vacationers in the Carolinas were preparing to pack up and head inland Friday as Tropical Storm Hanna moves toward the coast.
Several counties in both North and South Carolina have opened shelters and hotels farther inland are offering discounts to those fleeing the storm's path.
Others have decided to ride out the storm, which is expected to crash ashore overnight.
One man on a barrier island that's part of North Carolina's Outer Banks says he's not too worried because the storm's moving too fast to cause much damage.
The governors of Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina have declared precautionary states of emergency.
South Carolina's governor is urging people to leave flood-prone areas and mobile homes in two northern counties by Friday afternoon.
