(October 6, 2008)--Tropical Storm Marco has formed off Mexico's Gulf Coast with top winds near 65 miles per hour.
Marco started the day as a tropical depression in the Bay of Campeche.
Late Monday afternoon, the Mexican government issued a hurricane watch for the country’s Gulf Coast from Cabo Rojo southward to Veracruz.
A tropical storm warning is in effect from Cabo Rojo south to Punta El Lagarto.
Late Monday afternoon, the storm’s center was about 100 miles east-northeast of Veracruz and Marco was moving toward the west-northwest at about 9 miles per hour.
The center of the storm on the current track will be near the Mexican coast late Monday night or early Tuesday.
Some strengthening is expected, forecasters said, the storm could approach hurricane strength as it nears landfall.
