(October 13, 2008)—Residents of flood-weary Presidio were able to breathe a sigh of relief Monday as International Boundary and Water Commission officials said rain from the remnants of Hurricane Norbert is being contained by Mexican reservoirs and isn’t expected to reach the Rio Grande in the border town.

The town about 250 miles down river from El Paso has been under the threat of river flooding since early September.

Levee failures in Mexico flooded the neighboring city of Ojinaga and temporarily closed an international bridge connected the border cities.

The Norbert threat emerged just days after the bridge reopened.
