(November 17, 2008)-- A blast of cold air spread snow across parts of the Great Lakes region, with some places getting more than a foot Monday.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says snowy roads caused numerous accidents, and several school districts in northwestern Pennsylvania closed or planned to delay classes because of the slippery roads.
More than 20 inches of so-called "lake-effect" snow fed by moisture from the lakes was reported Monday morning in western and north-central New York state and the National Weather Service said as much as 14 inches had fallen at Erie, Pa.
More snow is forecast at Erie through Tuesday.
The weather service says up to a foot of snow also is possible in parts of Michigan's Upper Peninsula along the shore of Lake Superior.
