ALTA VISTA, Kan. (June 16, 2009)--Storms walloped northeast Kansas overnight and the town of Alta Vista, about 30 miles south of Manhattan, may have gotten the worst of it.
Baseball-sized hail pelted the town of about 500 residents, shattering house and car windows and ripping limbs off trees.
Residents say the hailstones came right through their windows and into their homes.
One man said the hail that battered his home was so loud he thought it was a tornado.
The Wabaunsee County Emergency Management is still estimating the damage.
