Hot, dry weather expected as rain leaves the state
(July 7, 2009)--High pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere is returning to Texas, bringing with it the sizzling temperatures and dry humidity old-timers know so well.
Afternoon temperatures Tuesday ranged from the 80s in the mountains of West Texas to well over 100 along the Rio Grande in South Texas.
South and Southeast Texas got some widely scattered showers and thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon, but otherwise, the summer sun beat down on the state unabated.
More of the same is expected statewide with fair to partly cloudy skies and low humidity.
Afternoon temperatures in the upper 90s are expected in West Texas, except for 80s in the mountains, but will verge on 100 in North Texas.
South Texas can expect temperatures of more than 100, but rain may return over the weekend.
