CORPUS CHRISTI (July 28, 2009)--More unwanted blobs of oil have washed up on Texas beaches during the busy summer tourist season.
State officials want to know if the source of the tar balls at Padre Island National Seashore is the same as last week's mess farther down the coast at South Padre Island.
Jim Suydam with the Texas General Land Office said cleanup of tar balls at Padre Island National Seashore is expected to take several days.
Suydam told the Corpus Christi Caller-Times that a 15-mile cleanup at the seashore began Sunday afternoon after beachgoers reported the tar balls, about 2-3 inches in diameter.
Visitors are being notified at the seashore entrance and throughout the park.
No wildlife has been affected.
