Thunderstorm Downs Trees, Power Lines Tuesday
Strong thunderstorms rumbled through Central Texas Tuesday, leaving downed trees and power lines in its path.

HILLSBORO (August 25, 2009)—A strong thunderstorm that produced heavy rain and wind gusts of as much as 50 miles per hour hammered Hillsboro Tuesday afternoon.

The storm downed trees and power lines and left several hundred in the dark.

Just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, another powerful storm had formed northwest of Clifton.

It was moving southwest at 10 miles per hour and was producing heavy rain, hail and wind gusts of as much as 50 miles per hour.

A strong thunderstorm also developed Tuesday afternoon west of Buffalo in Leon County.

It was skirting the Freestone-Limestone county line.

A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect until 5:30 p.m. for southern Robertson County.

Meanwhile lightning sparked a one-acre grass fire six miles north of Centerville in Leon County.

The fire was under control by 3:30 Tuesday.
