LOS CABOS, Mexico (September 3, 2009)--Tropical Storm Jimena was moving north along the east coast of Mexico's Baja California Thursday morning.

Jimena has been steadily weakening after making landfall Wednesday on a sparsely populated area of the peninsula.

The storm was once a massive Category 4 hurricane with 150 mile per hour winds, but aside from tearing off some roofs and toppling trees and power poles, it appears to have done little major damage and officials say Jimena's heavy rains might help alleviate the drought in much of northwest Mexico.

At last report, the National Hurricane Center in Miami says Jimena's winds had fallen to 60 miles per hour and forecasters say it will continue weakening as it runs north up the Baja peninsula.

Meanwhile over the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Erika is also losing strength.

It's now about 260 miles east-southeast of San Juan, Puerto Rice, with top winds of about 40 miles per hour.
