MIAMI (September 12, 2009)--Tropical Storm Fred was losing steam Saturday in the middle of the Atlantic and will likely weaken to a remnant sometime later in the day, forecasters said.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami says Fred's maximum sustained winds had dropped to near 40 miles per hour.
The storm was nearly stationary, but forecasters said it could start moving to the north or northwest later in the day.
