Quake Rattles Venezuela’s Capital
More than 100 people were injured when an earthquake rocked Venezuela’s capital and surrounding states.

CARACAS, Venezuela (September 13, 2009)--At least 14 people were injured by an estimated 6.4 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Venezuela, authorities said.

Venezuela’s justice minister said two young people have serious leg injuries, and 12 other people have minor injuries.

The official also says two buildings and about 17 houses were damaged in one state and thatwith two houses and a medical clinic were damaged in another.

The U.S. Geological Survey is giving the quake a preliminary magnitude of 6.4.

The epicenter was off Venezuela's Caribbean coast, about 65 miles west of Caracas.

Buildings swayed in Caracas, but only a few people evacuated buildings.

No injuries were reported in the Venezuelan capital.
