MANILA, Philippines (October 2, 2009)--Disaster officials in the Philippines are evacuating areas in the likely path of another typhoon.

Typhoon Parma is due to hit Saturday unless it changes course and officials fear it will cause a second disaster in the northern Philippines.

The storm that hit the Philippines last weekend triggered landslides and flooding that swamped the homes of more than 2 million people.

Nearly 300 Filipinos were killed.

The storm is also blamed for nearly 100 deaths in Vietnam and 14 Cambodia.

While 300,000 Filipinos have returned to their homes, disaster officials say some 400,000 are still being housed in schools and other shelters.

They were being asked to stay there for now, with the second storm looming.

Heavy rain was already falling Friday on parts of the eastern coast.

The government's weather bureau says Typhoon Parma has top sustained winds of 120 mph, gusting to 140.
