CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico (October 14, 2009)--The weather system that was Tropical Storm Patricia should weaken to a remnant low by Wednesday, forecasters said.

The storm weakened to a tropical depression as it approached Mexico's Los Cabos resorts late Tuesday, where officials closed schools and readied emergency shelters.

In Cabo San Lucas, tourists awoke to cloudy skies and intermittent rain Tuesday as hotel workers began putting away beach furniture and shutting down all open-air activities.

A hotel general manager says it's hoped things will be back to normal Wednesday or Thursday.

Mexico's government declared a tropical storm warning for the southern portion of the desert peninsula, including Cabo San Lucas.

Forecasters said it could dump 1 to 3 inches of rain on the region.
