Think It’s Cold Here? In North Dakota, It’s 29 Below
New Year’s Day was on the chilly side here, but in Minot, N.D. it was downright unbearable.

MINOT, North Dakota (January 1, 2009)—The mercury dropped to 29 degrees below zero Friday in Minot, N.D., and wind chills were near 50 below.

The deep freeze set in a week after the area received 2 feet of snow.

Temperatures were recorded at 29 below at Williston, N.D. and Minot Air Force Base.

Bottineau, N.D. reported a temperature of 28 below.

The official temperature Friday morning in Minot was 21 below.
