Warmed-Up Sea Turtles Released
Nearly a thousand sea turtles that were rescued from frigid water last week have been released.

JUNO BEACH, Fla. (January 15, 2010)—Nearly a thousand endangered green sea turtles have been released back into the Atlantic Ocean off of Florida their rescue from frigid waters last week.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says the thousand turtles were released Thursday on beaches around the state and more were to be freed on Friday.

Authorities helped rescue nearly 3,000 sea turtles last week as temperatures in Florida dipped into the 30s.

The turtles were taken for treatment at facilities around the state.

Several hundred turtles are still being cared for and more are being rescued.

Biologists say the turtles enter a state of shock and become immobilized when temperatures plunge.
