TOLUCA, Mexico (February 6, 2010)--The death toll from severe and unseasonable winter storms in Mexico this week has risen to at least 29 after a landslide killed at least 11 people Friday in Mexico State.
Officials say at least 20 more people are reported missing.
The storms closed schools and freeways and flooded thousands of homes and sent rivers over their banks in the neighboring state of Michoacan where at least 16 people, including three children, were killed Wednesday and Thursday.
Michoacan authorities say several people are still missing and at least 2,000 homes were damaged.
Two children were killed in another state.
The rains also slammed Mexico City, where open sewage canals overflowed and a mix of drain water and sewage flowed into thousands of homes and blocked major thoroughfares in the metropolis of 20 million people.
