LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE, Calif. (February 8, 2010)--Volunteers were helping residents of one Southern California neighborhood dig out after destructive mudslides triggered by heavy weekend rains.
Forty-three homes in the La Canada Flintridge area were damaged and 500 more were evacuated Sunday after mudslides swept through the area.
Residents returned home Monday to survey the damage.
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger toured the area, and said the mud needs to be removed as quickly as possible.
More rain is in Tuesday's forecast.
The mayor of La Canada Flintridge said the federal government should pay to help remove the mud that flowed down from federal land, but said the city has received no assurances of help from federal authorities.
